"Savanna" was founded in 2008 by the friendly Gebreselassie family and has been run by them since then. The Gebreselassis moved from Kassel to Berlin in 2007 and soon noticed that there were almost no African restaurants in Berlin. This circumstance and their great interest in the African-Eritrean cuisine used the two and opened their first restaurant - the Savanna.
